Pacific Whiting or "hake" (Merluccius productus) is a pelagic species taken with midwater trawl gear off the U.S. West Coast. Of the 90+ species managed under the Groundfish Fishery Management Plan, whiting landings are the largest single-species landings by volume. Whiting is taken by catcher boats delivering to shore-based processing plants and to at-sea mothership processors, and by large catcher-processor vessels.
