According to a study appearing in the Dec. 3 issue of JAMA, no evidence has supported the superiority of name brand drugs over generic drugs when it comes to treating cardiovascular disease.

A study presented at the 20th annual Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics scientific symposium, sponsored by the Cardiovascular Research Foundation, found that symptoms related to heart disease were often attributed to women’s stress levels and men’s symptoms were perceived as originated from actual physical occurrences.

In the Oct. 13 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine, researchers found that approximately half of Medicaid recipients over the age of 50 receive recommended screenings for breast, cervical and colorectal cancer.

The annual health grade for American hospitals was released Monday Oct. 14, taking into account data from the past three years. Results showed that although hospitals have made improvements to decrease mortality rates, the top hospitals were still ahead, decreasing their death rate by 70 percent.

AARP announced Thursday, Aug. 21 that it is launching four online tools for consumers. The tools include a doctor and hospital finder with comments, feedback and reviews of the physician and facility, an illustrated encyclopedia about health, a symptoms search engine and a drug database that allows people to find out how a prescribed drug interacts with other drugs.
