This summit will focus on the intersection of domestic violence and child welfare and is meant for professionals around the country working on issues related to co-occurrence who are looking to share their strategies for transforming the way child welfare agencies, domestic violence organizations, courts, other service providers and communities respond to families in need. This is a call for proposals to present workshops at the summit, a two and a half day conference providing training and information regarding co-occurrence. Presentations should highlight innovative practices and policies.
The deadline is January 19, 2009

External link Fifth National Conference on Health and Domestic Violence Exit Disclaimer
This conference offers professional education on the latest research and innovative health prevention and clinical responses to domestic violence. The event will take place in New Orleans Oct. 8-10, 2009 and will have information for physicians, physician assistants, dentists, nurses, nurse midwives, mental and behavioral health providers, social workers, health professional students, health policy leaders and advocates for victims of domestic violence.
Deadline for submissions is January 26, 2009.
Abstracts Needed
The Educators Network for Social Justice is currently seeking proposals from interested professionals for their second annual one-day conference at the Indian Community School in Franklin, Wis., Saturday March 28. Sessions must include active hands-on engagement with the content of the session and critical thinking about anti-racist, anti-bias teaching. Sessions should give teachers ideas that are readily applicable in PreK-12 classrooms.
Proposals are due by February 1, 2009.

Building Partnerships to Eliminate Health Disparities: Effective Chronic Disease Management Models to Improve Health Outcomes

This event, put on by Xavier University of Louisiana College of Pharmacy’s Center for Minority Health & Health Disparities, Research and Education, is seeking abstracts for poster presentations that will address the goal of decreasing the rates of health disparities. The conference takes place April 19-21, 2009 in New Orleans and will focus on replicable multidisciplinary collaborative models and approaches from the clinical, research and community arenas that integrate all levels of providers to improve health outcomes and eliminate health disparities. Clinicians (pharmacists, nurses, physician assistants and other allied health professionals and physicians), social workers, health policy makers, health educators, researchers and public and community health leaders are encouraged to attend.
The deadline for poster submissions is February 9, 2009.

National Abandoned Infants Assistance Resource Center is seeking abstracts for articles that will that appear in the Fall 2009 issue of The Source, which is distributed to more than 3,000 social work administrators, researchers, policymakers and direct line staff throughout the country. This issue will be devoted to the challenges faced by mothers living with HIV, including stigma, disclosure and identity changes due to chronic illness. For suggested topics, please refer to the AIA Web site. To be considered for publication, please email a brief (150-200 words) abstract of your proposed article to The Source Editor, Linda Blachman, at lblachman@berkeley.edu.
The deadline for abstracts is February 13, 2009. Articles will need to be completed by May 29, 2009.

The program is under in their Childhood Obesity program area and supports research on environmental and policy strategies with strong potential to promote healthy eating among children to prevent childhood obesity, especially among low-income and racial/ethnic populations at highest risk for obesity.. These grants are for individuals who are in the early stages of an independent research career.
