Training

COCE's training task consists of two main goals: development of training modules on co-occurring topics; and identification and provision of training for persons who will provide this training to those in need. Preparatory work focused on these goals has involved a review of existing curricula and the identification of significant gaps; where gaps were found, curricula topics are being considered for development.

A review of the literature uncovered a clear lack of curricular development in the area of Consensus- and Evidence-Based Practices. Consequently, COCE is focusing the development of its first training module in this area. The training module in this key area will target two audiences: leadership and practitioners. The content of the curricula will be informed by the following resource documents: Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) 42, Substance Abuse Treatment for Persons with Co-Occurring Disorders  (January 2005), the six Evidence-Based Practice Implementation Resource Kits (from the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration and Center for Mental Health Services), the Report to Congress on the Prevention and Treatment of Co-Occurring Substance Abuse Disorders and Mental Disorders, and the COCE Overview Paper on Consensus- and Evidence-Based Practices.

COCE’s curriculum, “An Introduction to Evidence- and Consensus-Based Practices for Co-Occurring Disorders,” is currently undergoing clearance at SAMHSA. Please check back in the future for any updates on the availability of the curriculum as well as any scheduled Train the Trainer (TOT) events.
