Snake River Canyon Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area

Snake River Birds of Prey NCA website

Crags and crevices, the deep canyon of the Snake River, thermal updrafts, and a broad plateau rich in small wildlife, provide habitat for the greatest concentration of nesting birds of prey in North America.

The Snake River Birds of Prey NCA was established by Congress in 1993 to recognize and perpetuate the area's wildlife values. BLM's mission is to preserve this remarkable wildlife habitat while providing for other compatible uses of the land. Our aim is to manage the area so that birds of prey flourish here, as they have for thousands of years, so that future generations will be able to experience and enjoy this special area. The NCA encompasses 485,000 acres of public land along 81 miles of the Snake River in southwest Idaho.
