Jalmenus evagoras prefers to breed on Acacias in exposed positions in eucalypt woodland or open forest areas in the foothills and tablelands of eastern Australia. It is well adapted to habitat disturbed by anthropogenic activities or to recently burnt areas where Acacia plants are regenerating.
