Officials with the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection and the Department of Natural Resources today announced the first confirmed occurrence of emerald ash borer (EAB), an invasive, destructive insect pest of ash trees, in Wisconsin.

The State Natural Resources Board adopted revised rules on Mar 26 2008, aimed at preventing the spread of viral hemorrhagic septicemia, or VHS. The new rules went into effect Apr 4, 2008.

Firewood Facts, Rules & Advice

To protect our parks and forests from these firewood hitch hikers (invasive pests and diseases), the Wisconsin DNR has created a permanent rule, effective December 1, 2006, which prohibits bringing firewood onto any DNR properties from more than 50 miles away or from outside of Wisconsin.
