Agriculture and Food Research Initiative - Plant Biology: Biochemistry

Identification and characterization of biochemical processes and pathways in the cell, as well as the genes and proteins involved in biochemical processes and pathways, will facilitate development of agricultural and forestry plants with improved or optimized performance. The lack of knowledge about a biochemical pathway or process often limits the application of genomic and genetic information in improving agricultural plant and forest productivity, quality, and sustainability. The goal of this program element is to provide basic knowledge about biochemical processes, pathways, and interactions in agriculturally and economically important plants and related organisms. This program makes single function research awards.
