NRDC Steering Committee

The NRDC Steering Committee is intended to represent the broad spectrum of national-level agencies, groups, and organizations that make up the NRDC. The Steering Committee manages a process for developing a vision for the future of rural America through the Partnership. It assists USDA Office of Community Development in developing a rural development agenda for the NRDC as a whole, Federal departments, and the Administration. It works to clarify issues for the NRDC, plans the Council's monthly meetings, works closely with the OCD to ensure that the NRDC is fully involved in the Partnership's management, and maintains close and regular consultations with all parts of the NRDP.


Steering Committee Quick Facts:

  • The Steering Committee Chair serves a one-year term.
  • The Steering Committee consists of nine members.
  • Every April, six members are elected to one-year terms.
  • The three unelected members are:
    • Immediate past chair
    • Immediate past vice-chair
    • Empowerment Programs Division Director, USDA-RD (currently vacant)

  • At least three of the six elected members must be representatives of federal government agencies or departments.
  • At least one member must represent a public interest group and at least one represent a non-governmental organization.
  • Three Steering Committee members represent the NRDC on the NRDP Executive Board, the overall leadership for the Partnership.
