January 2, 2009

Light wildland fire activity was reported for the new year. A total of six new fires were reported: four in Oklahoma and two in Texas. All large fires were contained excluding three in Oklahoma.

Weather: Warm and dry weather conditions are predicted for eastern New Mexico, western and central Texas, and the Oklahoma Panhandle. Winds will increase on Saturday and showers may occur on Sunday.

NEW Arcadia (Oklahoma Department of Forestry): 250 acres at 78 percent contained. The fire is located three miles north of Redden.
NEW Bat Cave (Oklahoma Department of Forestry): 210 acres at 80 percent contained. The fire is three miles east of Bell.
NEW Jackfork Creek (Oklahoma Department of Forestry): 160 acres at 80 percent contained. The fire is burning six miles northwest of Clayton.
NEW Old Buddy (Oklahoma Department of Forestry): The fire was contained at 205 acres.
