Welcome to Stewardship Contracting!

Stewardship End Result Contracting includes natural resource management practices seeking to promote a closer working relationship with local communities in a broad range of activities that improve land conditions. Stewardship contracting is a means for federal agencies to contribute to the development of sustainable rural communities, restore and maintain healthy forest ecosystems, and provide a continuing source of local income and employment.

Stewardship Contracting Champions for 2007 Recognized

There are many examples of successful use of stewardship contracting authorities in the Forest Service. Successes include increased use to meet land management objectives, increased local community support through collaboration and partnerships, improved integration of program areas through leadership, contributions to local economies, and demonstrated efficiency and effectiveness. Common to successes across the National Forest System are champions for stewardship contracting. Earlier this year, four champions were recognized for their efforts.

Stewardship Contracting Helping Control Silent Killer

Why were a few red oak trees in the Boulder Lake Campground on the Lakewood-Laona Ranger District losing their leaves in July and not waiting until Fall? When this happened in 1997, it was the first time symptoms of the Oak Wilt disease had appeared on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.
