Small Minority Producer Grant Program
(SMPG)

The Small Minority Producer grants are made to Cooperatives or Associations of Cooperatives whose primary focus is to provide assistance to small, minority producers and whose governing board and/or membership is comprised of at least 75 percent minority. The primary objective of this grant program is to assist small, minority producers through cooperatives and associations of cooperatives.

SMPG Background

The Small Minority Producer Grant was authorized by Public Law 109-97 under the rural cooperative development grants authorized under section 310(b) of the Consolidated Farm and Rural Development Act (7 U.S.C. 1932). This provides funds for cooperatives or associations of cooperatives whose primary focus is to provide assistance to small, minority producers and whose governing board and/or membership is comprised of at least 75 percent minority. The U.S. Department of Agriculture desires to encourage and stimulate the development of minority producers and cooperatives.
