V -- InVest, 1917 During World War I, the United States Government asked the public to "help win the war" by purchasing war stamps and war bonds. This poster urges purchasers to note the connection between their "investment" and Victory. Other posters depicted Abe Lincoln in the same pose as that of the penny, and ghosts floating over the battlefield. The Boy Scouts took up the challenge and convinced their families and neighbors to buy war saving stamps worth $53 million and Liberty Loan Bonds worth $147 million.
