GOSHEN COUNTY EQIP PROGRAM

How EQIP is being implemented in the county:

The local work group determined that the priority resource concerns in Goshen County are Irrigation Water Management/Water Quality, Grazing land Management and Saltcedar Control.  These local priorities support the national priorities of water quality, water conservation, and reducing erosion/sedimentation on agricultural lands.

The Goshen County EQIP allocation will be distributed as follows: All Saltcedar applications will be funded with the general EQIP allocation, then the rest of the general allocation will be 60% to HIGH PRIORITY Irrigation Water Management/Water Quality, and 40% to HIGH PRIORITY Grazing Land Management applications. The LWG may move dollars between resource concerns if additional funding is needed to approve an applicant.

NRCS will use the Ranking Criteria developed by the LWG and approved by NRCS to forward only HIGH PRIORITY applications for ranking. All other applications ranked "Low" will be deferred until all HIGH priority applications have been funded. Structural and/or management practices are listed in High and Low categories in their respective ranking category (Irrigation Water Management/Water Quality or Grazing Land resource concerns).

Applicants names are withheld from the LWG. The District Conservationist assigns a # to identify the application (i.e. application #1, #2, etc.) so names are not on the application during the ranking process. The ranking process includes a scoring system to optimize environmental benefits and evaluate the cost effectiveness of the proposed treatment(s). This process is described in further detail in the ranking sheet.
