Where: In
southeastern Wisconsin, about 75 miles northwest of
Milwaukee.
Habitat:
The refuge has 21,417 acres of wetlands, upland
grasslands, and oak-savanna remnants. In 1934 the marsh
was reclaimed from earlier "muck farming." Horicon now
encompasses a large part of the nation's biggest freshwater
cattail marsh.
Wildlife: Tens
of thousands of ducks, including the redhead, can be
found here. Horicon boasts nesting American white pelicans
as well as the state's largest great blue heron rookery.

Birdwatching, hiking, cross-country skiing, biking,
environmental education.
