CSREES' mission is to advance knowledge for agriculture, the environment, human health and well-being, and communities by supporting research, education, and extension programs in the Land-Grant University System and other partner organizations.

CSREES supports youth and students through its own programs and by partnering with or funding public or non-profit groups leading exemplary programs. CSREES youth development and educational activities are designed to build important skills and knowledge so that our youth can be competent, caring, contributing citizens now and as adults.

CSREES youth development activities include:

• 4-H, the world's largest, dynamic, informal educational program for young;

• 4-H Military Partnerships, in which the USDA and the Army and Air Force establish 4-H after-school clubs and programs on military installations;

• 4-H Afterschool, which strives to increase the quality and quantity of after-school programs;

• Children, Youth, and Families at Risk (CYFAR), supporting community-based educational programs to assist limited-resource families and at-risk;

• the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), which assists limited-resource families and youth achieve nutritionally sound diets;

• Extension 'CARES'… For America's Children and Youth (ECI), striving to ensure that all children and youth are in safe, healthy, caring, and enriching environments when away from their parents; and

• Youth science, engineering and technology programs, which seek to improve knowledge and skills as teens learn and teach technology to other youth and adults.

CSREES youth education activities include:

• Agriculture in the Classroom (AITC), which promotes agricultural literacy among the nation's students so they will make wise decisions as adults.

• Partners Video Magazine, which can be used by educators as a tool to teach students about current advances in the areas of research, education, and extension.

• My Community, Our Earth (MyCOE), providing secondary school, college, and university students worldwide a new set of geographic learning tools; and

• the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE), which provides high school students financial management and planning curriculum.
