Q. What is the National Animal Identification System?

A. The USDA National Animal Identification System (NAIS) is a national disease response network that identifies and tracks the movement of specific animals across the U.S. in order to protect the health of U.S. livestock and poultry, and trace an animal disease to its source

Additional information is also available at the NAIS FAQs and the FSRIO Animal Electronic Identification Resource List and Fact Sheet.
