Publications and Products - Maps
Atmospheric
Disturbance |
This web site contains a variety of climatic maps that show some of the
important spatial and temporal patterns of climate and weather-related
variables and atmospheric-related disturbances that are known to influence
ecosystems in the north central and northeastern U.S.
|
The Changing Midwest Assessment |
The purpose of this site is to describe the spatial distribution,
direction and intensity of the changes that have occurred on the
biophysical and social landscapes of the Region over the past two decades.
Specifically, we have mapped change in Land Cover, Forest Characteristics,
Plants and Animals, and Human Demographics. The Land Cover section
describes changes in the amount and distribution of the major land cover
types in the Region (i.e., Agriculture, Forestland, and Urban). The Forest
Characteristics section provides a comprehensive account of change in
Forests by Forest Type Group, including change in Area, Volume, Structure,
Composition, and Ownership. The Plants and Animals section describes
change in the relative abundance of species of special concern. And the
Human Demographics section describes change in population, housing and
seasonal housing density, and personal income. |
Eastern Area Modeling
Consortium |
Real Time Fire Weather Model Maps derived from atmosphere mesoscale model
output. Forty eight hours of output on four (4) domains is
available: 1) a 36km domain covering the contiguous United States; 2) a
12km domain covering the North Central and Northeastern states; 3) a 4km
domain covering New England (4km East); 4) a 4km domain covering the Lake
States (4km West). Two simulations are performed each day for the 36km and
12km domains, initialized from observations at 0000 and 1200 UTC. The 4km
domains are run once per day starting 24 hours after the 0000 UTC
observations. Output time indicates the time for which the model output is
valid. Model output from the last 2-3 weeks should be available at all
times.

FIA Map
Maker |
This program produces tables and maps from the USDA Forest Service's
Forest Inventory and Analysis Data Base (FIADB).
The user inputs the following information:
1. |
geographic area of interest (state/county retrieval or radius
retrieval) |
2. |
attribute of interest (timberland area, number of trees,
growing-stock volume, etc.) |
3. |
optional filters (for restricting the query to a specific ownership,
species, etc.) |
4. |
classification variables to be used for columns and rows
and the web application generates the resulting table. If the user
selects County or Congressional District as the row variable a shaded
county map is generated. |

Great Lakes Assessment |
Great Lakes Ecological Assessment (GLA)
Information and maps describing the ecological, social, and economic
conditions and trends in the northern forested regions of Michigan,
Wisconsin, and Minnesota. The site also includes a photo gallery and links
to other sites with additional ecological information.

Mapping Housing Density across the North Central United States,
1940-2000 |
This website provides maps and information on the
changes in housing density over six decades. |
Ozone in
the Great Lakes |
RWU FS-NC-4401 is cooperating with Battelle Pacific Northwest National
Laboratory in Richland, WA in a research project to determine the
frequency of occurrence of high surface ozone concentrations in the Great
Lakes region, the spatial and temporal patterns of ozone in the region,
and the atmospheric circulation and temperature patterns associated with
elevated surface ozone concentrations. As part of the analyses, composite
daily maps of observed surface ozone concentrations and lower atmospheric
winds and temperature anomalies over the Great Lakes region for the period
of April to September, 1985-1995, have been developed and are available
for viewing. |
Wildland Urban Interface |
In the United States the term "wildland-urban
interface" refers to areas where structures and other human
development meet or intermingle with undeveloped land. This
site provides maps, statistics, and GIS data. |
