Private support enables the Smithsonian to create innovative, exciting projects that would not otherwise be realized.  While the generous support of the federal government provides a foundation for Smithsonian activities, individuals, foundations and corporations are crucial partners in the Smithsonian's mission to diffuse knowledge.

Personal gifts to the Smithsonian can be structured in many ways, from cash, stock or other personal assets to planned gifts that can provide you with tax benefits and income for life.   Endowed gifts support the Institution in perpetuity and provide you with long-term recognition.

Contributing Memberships for individuals and Corporate Memberships for the business community open a special relationship with the Smithsonian.  You can become a Smithsonian member and enjoy many exclusive benefits while also supporting the Institution.

In addition to gifts that are unrestricted in use, you may specify that your gift be directed to a specific Smithsonian museum, research center or program.  For additional information on making a gift for a specific purpose, please contact a development officer in the appropriate museum or research center.

Explore your many options to make a contribution to the 21st-century Smithsonian.
