Call for Presentations

NatureServe invites proposals for presentations for sessions and workshops from conservation and natural resource scientists and professionals, including the NatureServe network and all other interested partner organizations. The conference will be organized with four concurrent thematic tracks each in ten 90 minute blocks.

Please note: The Northeast Natural Heritage Conference will focus on working group sessions. Presentations on heritage program projects and accomplishments will be incorporated in the Conservation Conference.

Track themes with examples of topics:
  • April 20 - 21 (Monday-Tuesday)
  • “Northeast Natural Heritage Conference”
  • This segment will focus on NatureServe Network knowledge exchange

Featured Topics:

  • New developments in methodology, science, technology, and integrity assessments
  • Reconciling species and ecological data across borders in the Northeast
  • April 22 - 24 (Wednesday — Friday AM)
  • NatureServe Conservation Conference — “Conservation on the Move”

National and international partners and network members join together to explore conservation issues and activities in depth.

Anticipated Featured Topics:

  • Biodiversity in a Changing Climate — what does the future hold?
    Monitoring impacts and range-shifts, renewable energy, susceptibility, roles for NatureServe and partners
  • Increasing the Pace and Effectiveness of Conservation
    LandScope America, prioritization approaches, conservation planning network, funding approaches, citizen science, featured success stories
  • Conservation Pathways: issues and opportunities in linear habitats
    Transportation & other corridors; greenways; linear aquatic systems; maintaining connecting migratory corridors; examples of public-private partnerships
  • Science on the Move
    Recent discoveries in rare species inventory, research, and monitoring; vegetation mapping — the baseline for monitoring change; wall to wall ecological systems map and habitat mapping
  • Tracking Biodiversity in a changing landscape — developments in data management tools
    From observations to element occurrences and predictive ranges; connecting the field to the data management system; digital image storage and sharing; data management for invasive species observations; how much can we depend on the Web; security, aggregation, standards

Format:

Presentations
30 min (generally 20 min for presentation and 10 minutes for discussion; 20 or 45 min blocks may be available in some sessions).
Topical Sessions
90 - 180 min blocks of related presentations and discussion in any format desired.
Workshops
90 — 180 min. interactive working sessions that address a particular issue and seek audience participation in discussion, solutions, or action. Longer workshops may be possible following the main conference.
