Conservationist Presents New Book on ‘Forests of America’

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Award-winning photographer, writer and conservationist Tim Palmer will present excerpts and images from his new book, “Forests of America” at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Oregon State University.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in room 115 of Richardson Hall, 3180 S.W. Jefferson Way, Corvallis.

Palmer has traveled and photographed forests in every corner of the country – from the northern woodlands of New England to the arboreal forests of the Northwest. His images and expressive text celebrate the beauty of nature and reveal why trees and forests are central to all life.

Palmer’s book, “California Wild,” won the Benjamin Franklin Award as the best book on nature and the environment in 2005. He has received the National Outdoor Book Award, the Independent Publishers Book Award, and the Director’s Award from the National Park Service. The Port Orford, Ore., resident has written and photographed 19 books, including “Rivers of America.”

Palmer will also speak and show slides at 7 p.m. on Nov. 12 at Grass Roots Books and Music, 227 S.W. 2nd, Corvallis.

Palmer’s visits are cosponsored by the Spring Creek Project for Ideas, Nature, and the Written Word and OSU’s Sustainable Forestry Partnership.

About Spring Creek Project for Ideas, Nature, and the Written Word: Spring Creek Project brings together the practical wisdom of the environmental sciences, the clarity of philosophical analysis, and the creative, expressive power of the written word, to find new ways to understand and re-imagine relationships to the natural world.
