Media Display Highlights OSU Patent Success

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Recent patents by Oregon State University faculty are featured in a display in the LaSells Stewart Center on the OSU campus. The Hall of Patents is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through May 30.

Licensing new technologies enables OSU innovations to move into the marketplace. Examples of patents from the past two years include:

• New adhesives that are environmentally safe and have superior strength, developed by OSU researcher Kaichang Li, may revolutionize a large portion of the wood products industry.

• An invention by OSU researcher Joseph Karchesy will help control arthropod pests of public health concern, such as mosquitoes, fleas, termites, cockroaches and ticks.

• OSU researcher John Wager is contributing to improvement of circuits in laptop computers and other consumer-, automotive-, and military-electronics information display products.

OSU received a record $2.5 million in licensing income during the last fiscal year and faculty had 25 new patents filed, 19 patents issued, 39 license/options executed, and 54 invention disclosures.

The OSU patent recipients are being honored as part of a celebration of OSU innovation and creativity. Also recognized are this year’s distinguished professors, the highest designation and academic honor that OSU bestows on faculty, as well as those elected to the prestigious National Academy of Sciences and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
