Finding Business Opportunities Overview

GSA’s Public Buildings Service (PBS) contracts for a wide variety of services in support of its mission--providing superior workplaces for federal agencies at best value.  The largest contracting areas are for maintenance, repair and alteration of buildings, construction of buildings, and housekeeping services. In fiscal year 2007 of the more than $1.8 billion spent in these areas, over $692 million (nearly 38%) was contracted with small businesses.

GSA business opportunities valued at $25,000 or more are published on the Federal Business Opportunities website---www.fedbizopps.gov.  The website posts Federal business opportunities, including proposed contract actions, solicitations, contract awards and other procurement information.  Vendors can subscribe to FedBizOpps and receive daily e-mail notifications of announcements sorted by selected organizations, product service code, or by solicitation number.

Agencies must compile and make available to the public projections of contracting opportunities with small businesses.  GSA’s Forecast of Contract Opportunities includes PBS’ projections of contract actions above the simplified acquisition threshold of $100,000.  Small businesses, including those owned by the disadvantaged, women, service-disabled veterans or located in HUBZones, may be able to perform under direct contracts with the Government, or through subcontracting opportunities.  The forecast contains information about the timing and range of estimated costs for PBS’ planned contracting actions.  The Forecast of Contract Opportunities can be found at www.gsa.gov/smbusforecast
