  • Agricultural Economics Activities, 1911 - 1947
    1,801 photographs from this series includes photographs taken by the bureaus and predecessor agencies of the Bureau of Agricultural Economics documenting efficient farming and marketing techniques throughout the United States. Included are photographs of the harvesting and cultivation of different crops; raising of cattle, sheep, and other livestock; farm homes; rural hospitals, schools, and libraries; community buildings and activities; topographical views of forests, pastures, abandoned and settled lands; and new and old models of farm machinery. Also included in this series are photographs commonly referred to as Community Studies, which document the living and working conditions in different rural communities in the U.S., ca. 1941.  Of particular interest is Dorothea Lange's study of migrant and tenant farm workers in California and Arizona communities including private and FSA labor camps, shacktowns and squatter camps. These materials are held by NARA's Still Picture Records (College Park, MD).

  • Master Correspondence File, July 1917 - January 1919
    7 documents from this series have been digitized. The series documents the broad array of food conservation programs under the control of the Federal Food Commissioner for California. The records cover efforts to educate the public about the need to conserve wheat flour, sugar, meat and other commodities. The records also document enforcement investigations of and actions against individuals and businesses that violated U.S. Food Administration regulations.   • Records of Plant Nurseries, 1934 - 1939

Among the digitized images are photographs of plant propagation methods; a map of Harrison County, Missouri; engineering drawings of a modified "Ames" type scarifier; examples of correct and incorrect baling methods; and title pages of the Bethany, Missouri, Soil Conservation Office newsletter. These materials are held by NARA's Great Lakes Region (Chicago, IL).

  • Selected Documents relating to General Correspondence, Correspondence Concerning Resettlement Projects in Utah, and the Records of Adon Poli
    2 documents relating to these records have been digitized. The digitized images from the records of Adon Poli show California's Imperial Valley, the most fertile area for agriculture in the United States today, as it existed before the Federal, state, and local irrigation projects of the 1920s-1930s. The correspondence files were created by the Farmers Home Administration, Regional Office (Berkeley / San Francisco, California), and relate to rural rehabilitation projects.   • Lewis Hine Photographs for the National Research Project, 1936 - 1937
    502 photographs have been digitized from this series. These photographs were taken as part of the National Research Program of the Works Progress Administration. This series consists of photo studies made by Hine in 14 industrial communities from December 1936 to July 1937. General views of the community, working conditions in factories, machinery, and workers, are pictured for each photo study.
