Area: Mojave National Preserve is one of the largest national parks in the contiguous US. Established in 1994, we are a young and growing site. National preserves allow hunting, which primarily occurs in the Fall. Our park has the world's largest concentration of Joshua trees, some of the tallest sand dunes in North America, wonderful night sky and natural sound opportunities, designated wilderness covering nearly half the preserve, and critical habitat for the threatened desert tortoise.

Baker, CA, is a tiny community of about 800 people located along Interstate 15 between Barstow and Las Vegas, and serves as a gateway to Death Valley National Park and Mojave National Preserve. Minimal shopping and amenities are available in Baker. Full shopping and medical services are available in Barstow, CA, about one hour away, or Las Vegas, NV, about 1 1/2 hours away. However, Baker is within a four hour drive of Los Angeles and several other national park sites. Kelso is located 35 miles south of Baker.
