Auditions Scheduled for ‘Angels in America’


CORVALLIS, Ore. – Auditions will be held Sept. 26, 27 and 30 for Oregon State University Theatre’s production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, “Angels in America: Part 1: Millennium Approaches.”

Auditions are scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 26-27 in the green room of Withycombe Hall Theater, and from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 30 on the Withycombe Hall main stage.

The play will be performed Nov. 8-10 and Nov. 15-17 at Withycombe Hall Theater. Charlotte Headrick is directing the play; George Caldwell and Barbara Mason are the designers. Michael Coolen of the OSU Department of Music has composed music for the production.

The auditions are open to all OSU students and members of the community.

There are parts for six men and six women. Scripts are available for check out at the main office of the University Theatre in Withycombe Hall.

“Angels in America” tracks the lives of several individuals: Joe Pitt, a young man trying to make his way in the world of politics, his valium-addicted and unhappy wife Harper, Pryor Walter who may be dying of AIDS, his partner Louis who simply cannot deal with Pryor’s illness, Roy Cohn, Republican lawyer and politico and numerous other characters.

Tony Kushner’s seven-hour play was turned into a miniseries for HBO, which was directed by Mike Nichols (“The Graduate”). The television production won numerous Golden Globe awards.
