Initial Information Security Briefing

For New Employees, Contractors, and Visitors to LANL, #9369

Goals and Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, a LANL information system user will:

  • Understand why information security is important,
  • Recognize some threats and vulnerabilities to our systems,
  • Know their responsibilities as a general computer user,
  • Understand information security requirements and restrictions,
  • Apply ways to mitigate information security threats and vulnerabilities,
  • Find resources available to assist with user questions and issues,
  • Know the protection requirements for hardware and information,
  • Describe the LANL computer network, and
  • Recognize a potential incident and know reporting requirements.

After completing the online training, you will be asked to Submit for Credit. If you have a Token Card (Smartcard or Cryptocard) with Administrative Access you can submit for credit and your training record will be updated within the hour. If you do not have a Token Card, you must submit for credit to the Registrar. Crediting of your training record will be completed within five days or sooner. Turn off any "pop-up blockers" in your browser or you may not be able to submit for credit.
