ANR Communication Services and Information Technology is a service group for the Division. Our mission is to support ANR programs through the development, marketing and distribution of communication products and services. E-mail, Network, and Web Services

We provide access to e-mail, Internet software, Web site development tools, no-cost Web site hosting, and high-speed connectivity for county and REC offices, along with related training and technical support. Our Web support service allows the Division to present a coordinated, consistent Web presence, and lets regional and county offices, workgroups, and programs construct and maintain professional-looking Web sites easily.

Media Services

Our Media Services group provides CD, DVD, streaming, and videotape production and duplication, as well as poster printing, digital photography, and slide scanning services.

Interactive Multimedia

Communication Services and Information Technology assists clients with planning and production for interactive educational programs for CD-ROM and World Wide Web delivery.

Large-Format Poster Printing

Communication Services and Information Technology provides fast and accurate printing of large-format poster displays for ANR clients. In addition, we offer consultation on a number of scientific and presentation graphics programs for both PC/Windows and Macintosh platforms.

Photography Services

Communication Services and Information Technology offers professional photographic images that enhance slide presentations and publications. Our photographers' skills include location assignments, macro photography, and portraiture.

Video Services

Video services available through Communication Services and Information Technology range from videotape sales to full-scale video program planning and production. In addition, ANR has funded a pilot project to produce Division-related video programming for the University of California's dedicated television outlet, UCTV. Publication Production

In Publication Production, we provide professional editorial and production services for peer-reviewed ANR publications, from one-page, online publications to full-length books. Find out more about production, peer review, and translation services at the ANR Communication Services Web site.

California Agriculture Journal

California Agriculture is a peer-reviewed journal published at least four times a year, reporting research, reviews, and news in agricultural, natural, and human resource areas. University of California faculty write and submit most of the articles. The magazine disseminates UC research to a diverse and well-educated audience, with the aim of fostering the protection, development, and welfare of the state's land, resources, and people. A 2003 survey answered by 66 percent of our subscribers showed 33 percent of respondents to be corporate officers or professionals in agriculture and 31 percent to be either university faculty members or research scientists. About one-fifth (19 percent) worked in government agencies or were elected office-holders, 87 percent were college graduates, and 55 percent held advanced degrees.

One of the oldest continuously published land-grant university research publications in the country, California Agriculture printed its first issue in December, 1946. It currently has the largest circulation of any publication of its kind (about 14,000 domestic and 1,700 foreign subscribers.)

Marketing and Distribution

Getting the word out and getting the product out -- that's what Marketing and Distribution are all about. We accomplish this through our marketing office in Davis and our ordering and fulfillment offices in Davis and Oakland. And besides mail-order and Internet sales, ANR numbered publications from Communication Services and Information Technology are sold through many UC Cooperative Extension county offices. A participating county office receives 40 percent of the sales revenue on each qualifying publication sold through that office.
