What is PMI®?

Founded in 1969, PMI® is the world’s leading not-for-profit project management professional association, with over 200,000 members in more than 125 countries. PMI® provides global leadership in the development of professional standards, certifications, research, publications, education and training in the project management field.

What is the Project Management Professional Certification Program?

The Project Management Professional (PMP®) is a globally recognized credential of choice for numerous industries and companies. Specific education and experience requirements, agreement to adhere to a code of professional conduct and the passing of a multiple-choice question exam are required to be eligible.

Those granted the PMP® credential must demonstrate an ongoing commitment to professional development and acquire 60 Professional Development Unit (PDU) every three years.

The Certified Associate of Project Management (CAPM) is intended for those practitioners who provide project management services but are relatively new to the profession and rely on experienced project managers for guidance and approval. The CAPM typically performs tasks such as assisting in evaluating project control plans, suggesting performance indicators and limits, assisting with refining project requirements and supporting administrative and financial disclosure. Like PMP®, CAPM candidates must first meet specific education and experience requirements, and then pass an exam.

Individuals holding the CAPM credential do not have to obtain PDU to maintain the designation. Instead they are allowed to hold the CAPM for a maximum of five years, after that point they must apply for PMP® certification or retake the CAPM exam.

The Program Management Professional (PgMP®) credential is PMI's newest credential and is specifically developed to acknowledge the qualifiactions of the professional who leads the coordinated management of multiple projects and ensures the ultimate success of a program. Candidates who earn this crednetial will be internationally recognized as professionals with the knowledge and experience to make and implement the important decisions and accomplish the strategic objectives that enhance business results.

As a PMI Registered Education Provider of PDUs, SkillSoft has a responsibility to verify that PDU requirements are met, issue a certificate that includes certain PMI required information, and maintain course and certificant records for five years. PMI certificates of completion are not the same as a general certificate of completion for the reasons just mentioned.

Individuals seeking PDU credit must be a SkillSoft client. To receive a certificate, complete the online Certificate Request Form here and follow the instructions provided to submit your backup information to validate the successful completion of your course. We are not able to provide a certificate to you without first receiving the supporting documentation.

If you have completed a course that you believe to be PMI approved and it does not appear on the online form, please contact our certificate processing office at certificaterequests@skillsoft.com for assistance.

Note to SkillPort users: If you have the SkillPort Credentialing Module enabled on your site, you do not need to submit a request for a Certificate of Completion. The Credentialing Module allows the learner to print out a formal Certificate of Completion for PDU credits.
