You can make a donation, join NWF, set up a gift membership, renew your own membership or make a memorial/tribute gift online at www.nwf.org/support. You may also make any of these transactions by calling Membership Services at 1-800-822-9919, Monday-Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. EST. Please be prepared to provide a credit card number online or by phone. NWF accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.

Please include your full name and address as well as the purpose of your donation. If your donation is for a gift membership, please be sure to include the full name and address of the gift recipient. Where can I find my NWF membership number?
|
|
Your NWF membership number is nine digits long and begins with a zero or a one. If you receive our magazines, it can be found above your name and address on the label. There may be a notation stating member number or NWF number. If you have an existing membership, you will find your membership number on the reply form of each of our mailings. Due to the difference in design, text, etc. on various mail forms, that number can be found in various locations on those forms. Usually it is positioned above your name and address or in the lower right hand corner of the form. If you are unable to locate your membership number, please contact the Membership Services staff at 1-800-822-9919, Monday-Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. EST and they will be able to look it up for you using your name and address information.

My records show that I have already submitted a renewal, but I continue to receive renewal notices. Is my membership up to date?

Since the preparation for all of our mailings begins several weeks before the actual post marked date, there can sometimes be a crossover between a donation and the mailed notices. In order for a membership donation to act as a renewal and extend your membership, it needs to be accompanied by a renewal notice, rather than an appeal for a specific project. If you sent in your renewal more than eight weeks ago and are still receiving notices, or have other questions about this process, please feel free to contact Membership Services at 1-800-822-9919, Monday-Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. EST.

How do I arrange for a gift membership for someone else?
|

Visit our magazine section if the person that you would like to provide a gift for is a child and discover which of our magazines (Ranger Rick®, Your Big Backyard®, or Wild Animal Baby®) would be the perfect choice for that young person. Select a title and click through to order that magazine online with a credit card. How do I make a gift in memory or honor of someone?

Making a memorial or tribute gift is a wonderful way to honor someone special. Simply click on the gift online link; provide a credit card and all the requested information. You may also call 1-800-822-9919, Monday-Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. EST, to arrange for the tribute gift by phone. You may ask for Patti Beattie or receive assistance from any of the Membership Services staff at that number. Are there other ways to help NWF save wildlife besides making a donation?
|
|
There are many opportunities to protect wildlife and wild places. We encourage you to become part of the NWF Activist Network. To learn more about taking part in this important effort, please visit our Action Center. You will learn more about critical issues that are currently at the forefront of the environmental movement. This site provides resources and tools to assist you in making your voice heard, such as the NWF newsletter, EnviroAction. You will also find information on writing letters to editors and lawmakers, or arranging a meeting with your lawmaker and lobbying.
Numerous opportunities for making a difference in your own backyard and community can be found in our education programs including how to garden for wildlife and how to participate in environmental education efforts such as National Wildlife Week.
We also recommend that you determine the NWF office nearest to your area and connect with them. This site will provide you with information on affiliate organizations that work closely with NWF. Locating these offices in your area will provide a connection with field staff familiar with wildlife and environmental issues ongoing in your region. It may also open up opportunities to volunteer and interact with knowledgeable staff and other concerned citizens.

I have not received my membership premium (free gift item such as plush toy, umbrella) yet. How long does it take to receive that type of item?
|
|
|
Normally it takes six to eight weeks from the time your contribution is posted for you to receive your free gift. Prior to that you will receive an acknowledgement or thank you letter. It is the policy of National Wildlife Federation to send such an acknowledgement for any contribution of $10.00 or more. In order for premium gifts to be shipped, the donation needed to be accompanied by the form offering the gift and include the requested donation amount.

The membership offer I responded to indicated that I would receive other items such as a calendar, note cards and wrapping paper. When will those arrive?
|
|
|
Membership benefits do not all arrive at once. A welcome letter, ID card, decal and the first issue of your magazine arrive within a few weeks of the posting of your membership. Any plush item or other premium that may have been featured arrives within six to eight weeks of the start of your membership. Other items such as the calendar and cards are sent at various times throughout the year to active members.

If you have an NWF membership, please call Membership Services at 1-800-822-9919, Monday-Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. EST, and provide your full name, old address including zip code and your new address (and/or name change) including zip code. You may also contact us via email.
Please be sure to mention if you receive the NWF merchandise catalog or children's magazines so that we can ensure the appropriate offices receive the information. Bear in mind that all of our mailings are prepared in advance, so please allow several weeks for the change to take effect.

The purpose of NWF membership mailings is to update and alert members and prospective members to critical wildlife and conservation issues as well as to gain support for our efforts. However, we certainly want to honor your wishes regarding the frequency and type of mailings as much as possible. I received a packet of name and address labels from National Wildlife Federation. If they contain errors or if I would like more of the labels, how do I obtain them?

If there are errors on the labels you received, please contact the Membership Services staff at 1-800-822-9919, Monday-Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. EST, or via email and they will make any necessary corrections to our records and submit a request for corrected labels. These are not produced on an individual basis, so please allow six to eight weeks to receive them.
If the labels you received were correct, but you would like additional labels, we recommend contacting one of our affinity partners to order labels or checks with NWF designs. Our partner, Classic Checks, can be reached at 1-800-354-3588 or through their website.
Whenever constituents purchase labels or checks with NWF designs from Classic Checks, that company makes a donation to National Wildlife Federation.

I remember that NWF had published International Wildlife magazine in the past. What happened to that magazine?
|
|
|
In order to make the wisest use of the resources entrusted to us by our members, the decision was made at the beginning of 2002 to discontinue publication of International Wildlife as a separate magazine. We realize that some members are interested in international issues so we introduced the National Wildlife World Edition, which contains the basic National publication along with a 26-page supplement of international articles and photos. The membership, which includes that edition, is $26 per year for six bimonthly issues. For shipment to Canadian and overseas addresses the membership is $36 to help cover foreign postage.

What steps does National Wildlife Federation take to produce an environmentally friendly magazine?

To help reduce the impact on the earth's resources and all living things, NWF prints their magazines on totally chlorine-free paper, and the inks have a high percentage of vegetable oils. Members can help out by passing the magazine on to a friend, nearby school, library or other facility after reading it. Learn more about green office practices,
recycling and other environmentally friendly practices that members can do at home and in their communities.

We are advised that the National Wildlife catalog abruptly ceased operations on March 14, 2008 without prior notice to its customers, vendors, employees, or to us and it is not known at this time whether operations will resume. Thank you for your interest in the National Wildlife catalog. The catalog is owned and operated by National Wildlife Direct, a subsidiary of BlueSky Brands, Inc., which is an independent catalog company incorporated in Delaware. We sincerely apologize for any disruption and distress this matter may have caused you. The shutdown by BlueSky Brands continues to be a very disruptive situation for the National Wildlife Federation as well.

What can I do if my catalog order was not received?
|

|
If you have already placed an order with the catalog via credit card, your credit card issuer may be able to assist in resolving any billing disputes with BlueSky Brands. The National Wildlife Federation does not have access to any customer orders that were placed with BlueSky Brands or to the inventory to fill those orders, which is owned by BlueSky Brands. We are not in a position to resolve any issues related to the operations or outstanding orders of BlueSky Brands. Despite being under no legal obligation in respect of BlueSky Brands' business, and we sympathize with the plight of friends of the National Wildlife Federation and have sought to contact National Wildlife Direct, BlueSky Brands, and other interested parties to ascertain their plans. We have no further information available at this time, but will continue to monitor the situation closely and will post any updated information we obtain that might be of use to you at this site.

What is Great American Backyard Campout?
|
|
|
The Great American Backyard Campout is a one-night event for families, youth and individuals to camp out in their backyards or local parks and to discover the fun of being in the great outdoors. The Great American Backyard Campout (GABC) provides an opportunity for everyone to relive -- or to experience for the first time -- how much fun it is to spend a night sleeping under the stars and enjoying the sounds of nature at night.
Held each June, the Great American Backyard Campout is a national event that encourages individuals, youth, friends and families to camp out together for one night. Camping out in the backyard is an excellent introduction to this favorite pastime and the first step families can take to get outdoors and explore nature. For how-to tips about this easy and fun activity, visit www.backyardcampout.org. The site also includes suggested activities, recipes, wildlife guides and more.
Each year the number of campers has steadily grown. The locations and types of campsites vary from family campouts in the backyard to public campsites with 30 or more community members. In previous years, campers have ranged in age from 3 months to 99 years old and have come from all areas of the United States.

No, NWF does not purchase property or accept gifts of property for the purpose of managing it as a wildlife refuge. However, The Nature Conservancy accepts gifts of real estate and both The Nature Conservancy and The Wildlife Land Trust will manage property as refuges. The Nature Conservancy can be reached at 1-800-628-6860 and The Wildlife Land Trust can be reached at 1-800-729-7283. NWF does not accept gifts in kind such as cars or other items either. If a donor wishes to handle the sale of the item and then submit a donation to NWF from the proceeds, it is greatly appreciated.

Participate in Nature QuestSM Wildlife Watch and let us know about the wildlife and plants you observe where you live! Through Wildlife Watch, you'll gain first hand experience with plants and animals in their natural environments.
When you record your observations, National Wildlife Federation and our Wildlife Watch partners collect and review your findings so that we may track the health and behavior of wildlife and plant species nationwide.
Don't forget to invite your family and friends to participate and join us year-round for Wildlife Watch. This event happens quarterly, marking each season. |
