Mar 5, 2004 -- Since the meeting, progress has been made in the following areas:
- APHIS-PPQ continues to explore funding options for the Sterile Insect Technique validation proposal from the Agriculture Research Service (ARS);
- A White Paper from the agriculture economist at the Center for Plant Health Science and Technology (CPHST) in Raleigh, NC is in final draft;
- CPHST and U.S. Geological Survey/NatureServe are working with the National Institute of Invasive Species Science at Colorado State University to produce an Economic /Environmental Impact Analysis document;
- ARS is making further progress on pheromone characterization;
- CPSHT is working on a U.S. risk map for the Cactus moth;
- APHIS-PPQ is developing plans for surveys including using volunteers;
- U.S. Geological Survey has engaged the Mississippi State University's Georesources Institute in a proposal to map the distribution of Opuntia species in the Gulf Coast region;
- APHIS-PPQ will work with the ARS systematic Entomology Laboratory to develop picture keys for larvae and adults, to include in a Pest Alert.
