Education & Training
Extension's Role in Developing Watersheds
When: Nov. 17-19, 2008
Where: Four Points Sheraton and The NC Arboretum, Asheville, NC
Description:
Increasingly, Extension Agents are asked to address issues related to changing landscapes. Agents balance traditional agricultural responsibilities and constituents with new concerns and questions related to urbanization impacts to water quality, soils, wetlands, and community quality of life. This training will provide hands on training and tours for Extension Agents that introduce land use change impacts on water quality, watershed planning, watershed restoration, and roles Agents may take in working with their communities.
Project investigators will describe successful watershed programs, demonstration projects, and funding mechanisms. Agents are encouraged to share their lessons learned and offer an opportunity to network with peers at a regional level. The training will equip Agents with the latest information and examples of Extension’s role in developing watersheds and improve their ability to understand and help propose solutions to urbanization issues.
