Welcome

Providing insights and knowledge about the role of disturbance in ecosystems....

The La Grande Forestry and Range Sciences Lab houses the Managing Disturbance Regimes Program.  The Program uses a team approach to study the processes and effects of natural and human-caused disturbance upon the ecosystems of  the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.

What's a "disturbance regime?"  Examples include fire, insect, plant disease, and air pollution.  All of these can potentially affect forest health in positive or adverse ways.

Team scientists work to develop management strategies that change the frequency and intensity of undesirable disturbance.

The goal is to provide scientific knowledge to help  manage disturbance regimes for societal benefits while restoring and maintaining ecosystem integrity and productivity.
