Disaster Response Maps

The Natural Resources Conservation Service generates maps to support disaster response efforts in the United States. To date, the primary focus of these maps has been hurricane-related disaster recovery efforts. Map series depicting soil suitability and limitations for key emergency measures have been generated for states  along the Gulf Coast and Atlantic Coast.

2008 maps were created from the detailed Soil Survey Geographic (SSURGO) database (Fiscal Year 2008, Second Quarter) and from standard interpretations in the National Soil Information System at a scale of 1:500,000. Additional maps depict estimated populations of swine, poultry, and  cattle per county according to the 2002 Agriculture Census.
