Program Dr. Bagchi's background is in manufacturing processes and their automation and integration. His industrial and academic experience is in rapid prototyping, metal cutting and forming, fixturing, and development of new manufacturing processes and systems. Before joining ATP, Bagchi established and led the Prototype Development and the Advanced Manufacturing and Technology groups at Shiloh Industries/MTD Automotive, a Tier I supplier to automotive OEMs. Prior to that, as a faculty member at Clemson University and The Ohio State University, he conducted research in machining, forming, brush finishing, fixturing, and rapid prototyping and tooling. He also co-directed the interdisciplinary Intelligent Design and Rapid Prototyping Laboratory at Clemson University. Dr. Bagchi earned a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a member of American Society of Mechanical Engineering, Society of Manufacturing Engineering, North American Manufacturing Research Institute, Society of Automotive Engineering, and Sigma Xi.
