Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen departs today for Brazil to participate in the Defense Ministerial of the Americas in Manaus. See the advisory for details.
Deputy Secretary of Defense Rudy de Leon is in Washington today. Early this morning he spoke to the Army National Guard and Army Reserve leadership. See the advisory for details. Later this morning he welcomes Deputy Minister of Defense Nozizwe Madala-Routledge, of the Republic of South Africa, to the Pentagon. See the advisory for details.
As a mark of respect for those who died on USS Cole, President Clinton has ordered that the U.S. flag shall be flown at half-staff at all U.S. government facilities and on all U.S. naval vessels until sunset today.
The annual meeting of the Association of the U.S. Army begins today and continues through Wednesday, Oct. 18, in Washington.
