Travel & Tourism Program Goals

Tread Lightly! is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to “proactively protect recreation access and opportunities in the outdoors through ethics education and stewardship initiatives.”  While its mission incorporates all forms of outdoor recreation, Tread Lightly!’s core focus is the ethical use of motorized and mechanized vehicles on both land and water.

Leave No Trace is a nationwide (and international) program designed to assist visitors with their decisions when they travel and camp on America's public lands. The program strives to educate visitors about the nature of their recreational impacts as well as techniques to prevent and minimize such impacts. Leave No Trace is best understood as an educational and ethical program, not as a set of rules and regulations.

Nature Watch is a partnership program of the US Forest Service that provides nature viewing opportunities; encourages safe and sound viewing ethics; and contributes to local economies.
