Classification Web Pilot Test Surpasses 3,500 Users
The Library's Cataloging Distribution Service pilot project, which provides instant access to up-to-date Library classification data online, registered more than 3,500 users in an eight-week period.
"There is clearly great interest in such a Web-based service throughout the library community," said Peter R. Young, chief of Cataloging Distribution Service (CDS). "We encourage catalogers and reference librarians everywhere to access Classification Web and to share their opinions," said Mr. Young. "We hope all users of Classification Web will fill out the brief online survey," said Cheryl C. Cook, Classification Web pilot project coordinator. "A lot of good user feedback is very important to this project. It will help determine if CDS will offer Classification Web as a permanent, cost-recovery service."
Classification Web is available by visiting the Web site at www.loc.gov/cds/classweb.html. Current information about the pilot test is posted on the CDS home page at www.loc.gov/cds. CDS produces all Library of Congress cataloging publications and services for the library community.
