Front Doors of Library's Madison Building to Close Temporarily

The main entrance doors of the James Madison Memorial Building of the Library of Congress, located at 101 Independence Ave. S.E., will close for approximately six weeks beginning Saturday, Oct. 14, so that the ice melting system under the front plaza can be replaced. There will be no entry through the front doors during that period of time.

The alternative door for researchers and visitors during the construction period will be the entrance located at Second and C streets S.E., where a ramp for wheelchair access has also been installed. Hours of entrance and exit for the public are 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Members of the public may also exit (but not enter) the Madison Building through the entrance at First and C streets S.E., which is the door closest to the Capitol South Metro station.

Signs will be posted to help members of the public locate the alternative entrance at Second and C streets, S.E.
