Pickford Theater Schedule

As part of the Library of Congress Bicentennial celebration, the Mary Pickford Theater is proud to present a retrospective of the Library's film and television collections. The Motion Picture, Broadcasting, and Recorded Sound Division provides public access to the most comprehensive collection of American and foreign-produced film and television in the world. Through the American Television and Radio Archive Act of 1976 and the National Film Preservation Act of 1988, the Library has a congressional mandate to preserve the cultural record of American film and broadcast history, as well as lead the development of the country's moving-image preservation policies. The Library also supports two moving-image preservation laboratories: the Audio Visual Preservation Laboratory in Washington, D.C., and the Motion Picture Conservation Center (MPCC) in Dayton, Ohio. Since 1970 the MPCC has preserved more than 15,000 feature films, television programs and short subjects, making the Library the largest publicly funded motion picture preservation organization in the United States.

In the coming months, the Pickford Theater will offer several series in conjunction with Library of Congress exhibitions, including "Thomas Jefferson," "The Wizard of Oz: An American Fairy Tale," the Bob Hope Gallery of American Entertainment, and "Living and Reliving the Sagas: Icelandic Life and Legend," as well as miniseries devoted to the Spirit of '76, silent comedies, juvenile delinquents, made-for-TV movies, action films from Hong Kong, and some National Film Registry screenings.

RESERVATIONS may be made by phone, beginning one week before any given show. Call (202) 707-5677 during business hours (Monday-Friday, 9 am to 4 p.m.). Reserved seats must be claimed at least 10 minutes before showtime, after which standbys will be admitted to unclaimed seats. All programs are free, but seating is limited to 64 seats. The Mary Pickford Theater is located on the third floor of the Library of Congress Madison building.

To subscribe to the Pickford program guide, submit your name and mailing address either by calling the Pickford Theater reservation line at (202) 707-5677 (24 hours a day) or by sending e- mail to pickford@loc.gov. We also encourage you to visit our Web site at www.loc.gov/rr/mopic/pickford.html.
