CD/ROM Series About the Works and Lives of Well-Known Authors Published in Cooperation with the Library

In cooperation with the Library of Congress, Scott Foresman Literature has published AuthorWorks, a series of seven CD/ROMs that provide in-depth information about literary authors, their work, their lives, and their times.

The series comprises: Classic Authors, Contemporary Authors, and Multicultural Authors for grades 6-8; American Authors I for grade 9; World Authors for grade 10; American Authors II for grade 11, and British Authors for grade 12.

AuthorWorks examines an author from three perspectives: the Life section, which includes personal history, travels, family friends and fellow writers; the Times section, which explores the politics, art, music, technology and history of the period, and the Work section, which focuses on the author's style, influences and critics.

The disks provide a rich database of information presented through various media--slide shows, oral readings, movies, music, interviews, historical documents, maps, text screens and more. A comprehensive Teacher's Guide offers instructional support and creative research ideas, allowing collaborative and individual learning.

Classic Authors includes Emily Dickinson, Jack London, Edgar Allan Poe, John Steinbeck, Mark Twain and Walt Whitman.

Contemporary Authors features Robert Cormier, e.e. cummings, Robert Frost, Ursula Le Guin, Cynthia Rylant and Paul Zindel.
