Outreach Support

National Outreach Services

The National Outreach Service Team brings together people, messages, and information so that the science and work of NOAA Fisheries Service is understood and appreciated. In addition to providing quick response to immediate situations for both internal and external audiences, the Team is at the forefront of long-range strategic communications planning. The Team provides communications advice and guidance, assistance in developing communications products and tools, and manages events and an aggressive exhibits program.

Exhibit Opportunities

March 2009

International Boston Seafood Show: March 15-17, Boston, Massachusetts. This is the largest seafood exposition in the United States. In 2008 there were more than 10,000 visitors and over 6,000 exhibitors from the seafood and fishing industries. This event is a cornerstone event for NOAA Fisheries Service. NOAA Fisheries Service will be on hand to answer questions regarding domestic and European Union (E.U.) regulations regarding illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing; certification of fishery product exports to the E.U.; and general trade questions.

April 2009

European Seafood Expo: April 27-30, Brussels, Belgium. The European Seafood Expo is the largest seafood exposition in the world. NOAA Fisheries Service partners with the Seafood Inspection Program to bring Fisheries information to a world audience. Economic statistics and other information produced by Partnerships and Communications are a highlight of the NOAA Fisheries booth. We also conduct one-on-one meetings with European, Asian and other world fishing representatives in support of the U.S. fishing industry utilizing our on-site European Union representative.

June 2009

34 th Annual NOAA Fish Fry: June 10, Washington, D.C. This is the premier social event for the Agency bringing together friends and colleagues to showcase American fisheries and seafood.

Capitol Hill Ocean Week: June Washington, D.C. This event brings together a wide-range of stakeholders to discuss current ocean and coastal issues. Panel speakers include Members of Congress, as well as representatives of the federal and state government, industry, academia, and nonprofits. This year, the symposium will focus on the effects of climate change on the oceans. Topics include the state of the science (acidification, habitats), impacts (to natural resources, to humans), and solutions (sequestration, ocean observations, alternative/cleaner energy), as well as legislative updates.

July 2009

Louisiana Foodservice Expo and Seafood Cook Off: July 18-19, New Orleans, LA. Designed as a showcase for American seafood, the New Orleans show is a national outreach event. A bonus is the exhibit opportunity at the Foodservice Expo. More than 12,000 industry people attend this unique event sponsored by the Louisiana Restaurant Association – one of the largest business organizations in the state, representing 7,000 restaurant operations and related businesses. The restaurant industry in Louisiana is the state's largest private employer with more than 120,000 employed directly and another 50,000 indirectly employed. Restaurants in Louisiana generate $4.8 billion in annual sales. NOAA Fisheries Service supports the Expo by sponsoring the annual seafood cook off—bringing attention to the benefits of eating Gulf coast seafood. This event is important given the healthy benefits of seafood in American diets.

August 2009

American Fisheries Society Annual Meeting: August 30- September 3, Nashville, Tennessee. The theme of this year's annual meeting is "Diversity, the foundation of fisheries and the American Fisheries Society; are we gaining ground.”

October 2009

American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Life at 50, National Event and Expo: October 22-24, Las Vegas, Nevada. This is the AARPs largest event of the year. AARP members are active constituents in fisheries issues ranging from recreational fishing to the health benefits of seafood consumption. NOAA Fisheries Service will be present at the event to promote the services that we offer this active constituent group.

November 2009

Pacific Marine Expo: November, Seattle, WA. Pacific Marine Expo is the largest commercial marine tradeshow on the West Coast. Serving all aspects of the market, including commercial vessels owners, commercial fishermen, boatbuilders and seafood processors, this annual event covers it all.
