LDART Sample Results

Topographic Products

This section provides links to pages showing examples of output generated by LDART using the different output formatting options available. The demonstration areas include the vicinity of Singleton Swash at the north end of Myrtle Beach and the north end of Hilton Head Island, both in South Carolina. The LIDAR elevation data were collected during the surveys on October 1, 1997 and August 5, 2000 surveys.

Visible Image Product

The Airborne Topographic Mapper (ATM) sensor used to collect LIDAR elevation data was upgraded in the fall of 1997 to collect panchromatic (or visible) data over the same area as the topographic survey. The ATM uses the same LIDAR optics to collect the passive reflectance or brightness value over the helical scan path of the instrument. These data provide a visible image coincident with the topographic survey. This imagery provides a useful product for identifying beach features, such as the vegetation line and the land/water interface.

LDART provides an option, Get Visible Image(s), for creating georeferenced Tagged Image File Format (GeoTiff) images from the passive reflectance data. The thumbnail images below show sample image products from LDART. Note that there is some variation in the quality of the image products due to the varying light conditions during the collection process and the fact that no calibration is performed on the passive sensor.
