International Law Enforcement Academies
A world-wide network of International Law Enforcement Academies (ILEAs) was created to combat international drug trafficking, criminality, and terrorism through strengthened international cooperation. Serving four regions: Europe, Africa, South America, and Asia; ILEAs help protect American citizens and businesses, buttress democratic governance through the rule of law, enhance the functioning of free markets through improved legislation and law enforcement, and increase social, political, and economic stability.
Anticorruption Initiatives
Any effective anti-crime/anti-terrorism program must also attack corruption, and INL plays a leading role in supporting several global, regional, and bilateral anti-corruption initiatives. Committed to strengthening the international fight against corruption, INL has pursued a mix of diplomatic and programmatic efforts to attain four primary international anticorruption goals including: uniting governments under common commitments; helping governments meet or exceed those commitments; mobilizing popular will and private sector action; and leading by example. By recognizing and helping to shape international norms to counter corruption, the U.S. Government opens the door to better bilateral and multilateral cooperation on traditionally local fronts.
