Flight loads/aeroelasticity discipline addresses how the aircraft structure reacts to flight, maneuver, and environmental gust loads.

Aviation is constantly changing and improving. New materials are used to make airplanes lighter, new control systems are used to relieve loads on fixed surfaces, and flight speeds and altitudes increase. New designs such as the Boeing 7E7 and the Airbus A380 airplanes stretch old limits and theories about aircraft structure, flight loads and aeroelasticity. With such advances, predicting and analyzing flight loads and how the airplane reacts to those loads are critical to safe flight.
