University Nuclear Education Programs

The program helps educate and train university students in the production and use of nuclear energy. It also supports the continued operation of reactors at research universities across the Nation.

Rating

What This Rating Means

NOT PERFORMING
Results Not Demonstrated

A rating of Results Not Demonstrated (RND) indicates that a program has not been able to develop acceptable performance goals or collect data to determine whether it is performing.
  • Government support for these programs is no longer necessary. Enrollments have tripled since the late 1990's, reaching upwards of 1,500 students. In addition, more universities are offering nuclear-related programs and there is a growing interest in nuclear energy.
  • The program lacks performance measures and is unable to demonstrate results. While enrollments have reached the program's target level of 1,500 students ten years ahead of schedule, the program is unable to demonstrate that it caused these results.
  • The program has been successfully terminated as of December 26, 2007.
