Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau Protect the Public Program

This program assures the integrity of alcohol products and industry members in the marketplace; ensures compliance with laws and regulations pertaining to Federal commodity, safety and distribution by regulated industries; and provides information to the public to prevent consumer deception.

Rating

What This Rating Means

PERFORMING
Adequate

This rating describes a program that needs to set more ambitious goals, achieve better results, improve accountability or strengthen its management practices.
  • The overall program purpose is clear. ATF (now TTB) ensures compliance with the Federal Alcohol Administration Act and the Internal Revenue Code and protects the integrity of the alcohol products on the market through inspection of manufacturing sites and review of labels and formulas.
  • The program has demonstrated results based on its historical performance measures. However, the current measures do not sufficiently capture the impact of the program's performance on public safety (ATF, now TTB, has only one long-term performance measure).

Improvement Plan

About Improvement Plans

We are taking the following actions to improve the performance of the program:

  • Updating TTB's Web site to enhance search and navigation; improve content and format; redesign TTB.gov homepage; and employ plain language.
  • Implementing a new process to seek and incorporate customer feedback through the use of customer satisfaction surveys for label and formula approval applications.
  • Analyzing the results of the first comprehensive TTB-sponsored seminar and implementing changes and improvements to subsequent seminars.
