Navigating the Website

The following instructions explain the basics of how to get around The Condition of Education website. They provide information about the different pages, how to move from section to section, and the various links provided.

Navigation

You can navigate this site in the following ways:

  1. Toolbar
The Toolbar appears on the top of each page, except for the Home page. The Toolbar has two components: the three buttons (Indicator List, Site Map, and Home), and the Quick Jump pull-down menu. This menu lists the major parts of the site, including the five major sections where individual indicators are located. To view the pull-down menu options, go to the Quick Jump menu at the top of this page.

  2. Section navigation
Each section (commissioner's statement, special analyses, indicator, and so on) has its own unique navigation system. The major components of each section appear on the left-hand side of the screen, with subsections listed when appropriate.

  3. Indicator navigation
In addition to using the section navigation to see the indicators, you can also view them by using the Previous and Next arrows. These arrows appear above the indicator text.

At the bottom of each indicator page, there are links to the supporting documents (charts, tables, standard error tables, and supplemental notes). You can also download the indicator and corresponding supporting materials in PDF format.

NOTE: Indicator names consist of two components—the indicator number and the print edition in which it appears. For example, Indicator 5 (2008) is from the 2008 print edition of the Condition, while Indicator 5 (2007) is from the 2007 edition.

Indicator List

The Indicator List provides an alternative way to access the indicators and PDFs containing all items for a given indicator. Using the Indicator List is the quickest way to access the PDF download links and to browse a list of all indicators within a section.

Site Map

The Site Map shows the major areas of the site and how one section is related to the next. You can access any section by clicking it.

Home Page

From the Home page you can access the Site Map, User's Guide, Indicator List, Special Analyses List, Highlights from the current edition, and Print Editions in PDF format from the text links. The navigation bar does not appear on the Home page.
