ARM 1997

UNC Citation research jet.

ETL will take its NOAA/K cloud radar to the Dept. of Energy's Cloud and Radiation Testbed in Oklahoma in the Spring of 1997 to conduct studies for the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) program. The objectives of the work are to optimize the performance of the new CART millimeter-wave cloud radar (MMCR) by comparing its measurements with those of NOAA/K. The MMCR was designed and built for ARM by ETL. Scanning data from NOAA/K will also be used to examine how the temporal and horizontal variability of clouds are related. The University of North Dakota's Citation research jet will collect in-situ measurements of clouds over the radars for validating ETL's radar/radiometer methods for estimating cloud hydrometeor sizes, concentrations and mass contents from the ground.
