The Environmental/Occupational Pulmonary Medicine training program supports two-year research fellowships emphasizing environmental lung disease with patient-oriented research on asthma, fibrosis, lung cancer, and the pulmonary responses to environmental toxicants. The program is aimed at physicians who have completed internal medicine residency and pulmonary clinical rotations. Three academic programs, the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, the Department of Environmental Medicine, and the Sackler Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences participate in the training program. Research opportunities emphasize a basic science orientation, with studies oriented to cytokine and growth factor gene regulation, receptor expression and signal transduction, oncogenes, and tumor suppressor genes.
